Teaching (Jan 2020-Present)

  • From January – March 2020 I was a substitute teacher. I taught in French immersion classrooms from Kindergarten to Grade 12, in subjects varying from art, to literature, to science, to weight-lifting. All en français, bien sûr!
  • In March 2020, when schools closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I worked remotely as part of a small team developing resources in French to assist classroom teachers as they transitioned rapidly to teaching their courses entirely remotely.
  • When schools reopened in June 2020, I took over a Grade 6/7 class for the remainder of the school year. During this time, I was lucky enough to have a teaching partner with whom I shared my students. We collaborated to teach all subjects to two sets of students while following new health and safety protocols. We taught some students in person, and some students online.
  • Starting in September 2020, I have been teaching at the same secondary school. Primarily, I teach French as a second language for students in Grade 9 through Grade 12. I also have some experience working in Student Services and teaching Digital Literacy.

Student Teaching

Long practicum (2019)

I completed my long practicum at a secondary school, teaching Core French 9 and Core French 10. I also enjoyed volunteering at the Learning Center, helping students with diverse learning needs.

Short practicum (2018)

I completed my short practicum at a middle school, teaching a grade 6/7 French immersion class. I taught French language arts, English language arts, math, social studies, and P.E.

Tutoring

Tutoring company & private tutoring

(2017 – 2018)

At a tutoring company, I tutored up to 4 students at a time. Mostly I tutored children from Grades 6-8, but I also have experience with students from Kindergarten through to Grade 12. I tutored various subjects, including math, English, French, social studies, family studies, and science. I have tutored students privately as well, helping them prepare for IB exams in French.

Volunteer Work

Teaching Assistant

(Sept 2017-Jan 2018)

I was a student teacher in a French 11 class for one day a week over the course of one semester. In this position I gained practical classroom experience. Primarily, my role was one of observation and support where, during work periods, I would circulate and help the students. I did however take on more of a leadership role on several occasions, when the teacher was absent for the day, and when I was teaching lessons that I had created myself. You can find those lesson plans and other handy worksheets over here.

Learning & Writing Peer Educator at SFU

(2016/2017)

I have volunteered for two semesters as a learning and writing peer educator with the Student Learning Commons at SFU. In this position I worked one-on-one with students to help them develop writing skills, proof-reading skills, and learning strategies. I worked with a variety of students, each with their own strengths and needs. This diverse and dynamic environment allowed me to develop my adaptability, patience, and empathy. As a peer educator, I served as a friendly point of contact between the student body and the library. Several clients have provided feedback that their favourite part of their consultation with me was the friendly environment.

I have provided over 50 hours of direct service to my fellow students, earning me Level 2 International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

Research Assistant at the Centre for Research on Early Child Health and Education (CRECHE)

(2014)

I volunteered with the Budding Scientists program, which helps expose children to science and aims to get them interested in it by providing them with exciting learning opportunities like trips to Science World.

In this position, I administered research tasks to 5-6 year old children. I also played with and minded the children, guided them through the activities of the day, and encouraged them to listen, work together to solve problems, and to be kind to one another.
